BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that Sheikh Hasina-led government has created a horrible situation in the country.

"We thought that the government will make an arrangement for holding the upcoming general election under a non-party neutral government accepting the people's demands. Instead of doing it, they have resorted to repression and torture on people. The country is now going through a severe inflation of food, lack of work and unemployment in one hand, while deterioration of law and order on the other. Whatever fear and intimidation they show people, they will not find the path to flee unless they resign from power," he said.

Addressing a press conference at the party's central office at Nayapaltan in the capital on Sunday, Mirza Fakhrul said, "The fascist and illegal Sheikh Hasina-led government has clinged to power using force. They have taken away the people's democratic rights and destroyed the electoral system. They have ruined the country's economy resorting to unbridled corruption. They want to hold another unilateral election. They have started sentencing many of the opposition leaders and workers implicating them in false and fabricated criminal cases. They (government) have so far arrested 1,360 BNP leaders and workers."

Referring to Sheikh Hasina's remarks made while inaugurating a building of lawyers in Dhaka on Saturday, Mirza Fakhrul said, "The prime minister of an illegal and unlawful government made such remarks which the chief executive of a country cannot utter. The remarks made about the sub-judice cases proved that the head of the Awami League government was giving directives to deliver judgements creating direct influence on the judiciary. She is implementing her blueprint of punishing the BNP leaders. The government is using the law enforcing agencies just to cling to power. They are also using the court."
