Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Matsyajeebi Dal
On January 29, 1979, the founder of BNP, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, established an organization called 'Jatiotabadi Jele Dal'. Then on September 1, 1993, in the Fourth National Council of BNP, the name of the organization was changed to 'Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Matsyajeebi Dal.’ According to the constitution of the organization, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman started the canal cutting program on the basis of voluntary work for the Green Revolution. One of the goals of which was to renovate the village fun-pond and produce fish in the canal in addition to the production of food grains. To increase the supply of livestock and meat and create more employment through increased fish production. Apart from this, he wanted to earn more foreign exchange through the export of fishery products and to make the fishermen politically aware and well-organized. Even during the inauguration of 'Matsya Pakho' and 'Matsya Mela' on August 1, 1993, then Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia declared fisheries as 'Fishery Industry.’
